Survey Finds Public Has Faith

A recent survey revealed that two thirds of Americans think that recovery is possible and believe that recovery addicts can be contributing members of society.  This is indeed good news!  More citizens have become enlightened and most likely a survey of the same people would reveal that as tax payers they would prefer to pay for treatment versus incarceration for offenders who are addicts.

Addiction is the worse affliction in society without a doubt.  However, the refreshing outcome of this survey gives hope that we are not far from a solution.  In fact, the solutions are available and much cheaper and more attractive than incarceration. In the main, incarceration never seems to come up as a popular solution for the drug epidemic and obviously has done little to curtail it.  One wonders why so much money is appropriated for such an unworkable solution.  Perhaps the taxpayers don’t realize they are in charge.

It is simply a matter of educating our already enlightened population that they can make a difference by making their voices heard.

Narconon is a viable solution.  We have a 76% success rate.  877-413-3073

HELP THE PAROLEES AND HELP THE COMMUNITY

May 28, 2009

Investing money in drug treatment for parolees will save money for the community.  If the parolees receive effective treatment, never again to return to the system, the money spent on this will be well worth it.  The whole point is that the drug treatment must be effective.  We can’t take a chance in sending the message that treatment doesn’t work so we must resort back to the prison system.

Along with the studies on how much money we will save in providing treatment, let’s do a study to isolate those programs out there that work.

With drug rehab success rates ranging from 12% to 80% we have to be sure we are really investing in treatment where we will get a return.  Let’s get behind a study to see what is really working out there.

“This report from the Justice Policy Institute shows that states could save a combined $4.1 billion by increasing the availability of parole by shifting 10 percent of the adult prison population into the parole system, and improving parole support and services so that fewer people are returned to prison for technical (rule) violations. Additionally, the report finds that community-based drug treatment provides bigger crime reduction returns than prison — for every dollar spent on drug treatment in the community, the state receives $18 in benefits.”

EFFECTS OF PRENATAL METH USE

May 28, 2009

This article is not surprising, but it is frightening.  Methamphetamine is incredibly addictive.  Any pregnant woman who has abused methamphetamine, no matter their intentions should immediately get into effective drug treatment.  Good intentions and will power are often not stronger than the pull of addiction.  Good people go bad with methamphetamine and we can’t count on them to make ethical decisions.

Pregnant mice given a single dose of methamphetamine had babies who suffered from developmental problems and impaired motor skills, according to a University of Toronto researcher.

The Saskatoon Star Phoenix reported March 19 that researchers believe that meth use releases free radicals in the brain, which can cause a variety of damage, including to DNA. Fetal brains have less ability than adult brains to counteract free radicals, said University of Toronto researcher Peter Wells.

In mice, the harmful effects of prenatal meth use appear to be permanent. Wells said it’s not clear if the animal studies can be applied to human drug use, however. “It’s very difficult to know the (troubles) that meth causes in humans because there’s very little documentation about what they’re exposed to,” he said.

GETTING THROUGH IT AND HANDLING IT

May 28, 2009

NARCONON REALIZATION

Here is a Narconon reflection by a Narconon drug treatment student.  It is written with the hope that others will read it and reach for help.

“I found the communication course to be wonderful.  I have learned to sit comfortably without moving for a while.  I have learned to be comfortable while looking at someone.

Before Narconon I couldn’t sit still for one minute.  Narconon showed me how to control myself in any situation.  I now make the right decision and the right choices.

My mind is in the right place.  I no longer get upset, because no matter what comes my way, I can get through it, and most of all handle it.”

Whether a person has abused heroin, cocaine, methamphetamine or pot, the Narconon program can lead them down the road of a new life.  Narconon is the New Life Program.

STRIVING TOWARDS PERFECTION

May 27, 2009

NARCONON REALIZATION

Here is one of many Narconon realizations today from a Narconon drug treatment student.  It is written for anyone who likes to hear good news and especially for those who are reaching for some help with drug addiction.

“Today I realized many things while on the objectives course, including the following:

I realized how my choice of words can either build someone up or tear them down.  I have to think are my words encouraging others?  Am I doing enough to help someone else?   How many times when talking am I only saying “I” or “me”?.

I want to touché the lives of others.  First, there must be a renewal of my mind to be effective in the lives of those with whom I come in contact.

I am reminded of the following words from scripture, “ Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable.”

I know that I will never be perfect and will not always do the exact right thing.  However, my motivation is to strive towards perfection while working to help all the people that cross my path.

Though perfection will not occur in this lifetime, the journey to pursue it will.  By right living, healthy eating, healthy relationships, good conversation and dreams I am getting there.

I will continue to evaluate and learn and do the best I can to make the right choices.”

Narconon is the New Life Program and there are gains to be had for anyone – whether they have abuse cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine or pot, the Narconon program can work for them.

A SIMPLE REALIZATION TOWARDS A DRUG FREE LIFE

May 27, 2009

NARCONON REALIZATION

Here is what appears to be a very simple realization.  However, when someone is returning to a healthy life from a life of addiction, the little steps in the beginning can be very powerful.  This is what the Narconon drug treatment program is about.

“While reading the Way to Happiness, the Chapter on “Take Care of Yourself” encourages me to take care of the body that I have.  I realize that I must maintain proper hygiene by keeping my body clean, preserving my teeth, eating properly and getting rest.

While doing this simple exercise I am reminded of this code on common sense.”

Whether a person has abused cocaine, methamphetamine, pot, oxycontin or other drugs of abuse one of the things that will have to be learned or relearned is how to care for the body.  The drug addict has actually been doing the opposite – destroying the body.

At Narconon they learn to walk back up the path towards a happy and healthy life.

METH LAB KIDS

May 26, 2009

According to an article entitled Drug Endangered Children, “A total of 3,419 children were endangered by methamphetamine production in 2003.”

The article goes on to say, ”Children living in methamphetamine labs are at an increased risk for abuse and neglect.  These children often live in deplorable conditions and face many hazards such as weapons and fire-arms, booby traps intended for authorities, vermin-infested living and play areas, and lack of heating cooling and adequate plumbing.”

Obviously most of these kids are headed for a life of trouble unless their parents get into effective drug treatment where they learn parenting skills and ethics.

The future generation of leaders needs our help in getting their addicted parents into treatment.  Whether the drug of abuse is methamphetamine, cocaine, heroin or pot, these kids deserve clean parents.

WHATSA MATTER WITH THE WHITE MATTER?

May 26, 2009

We know binge drinking is a problem with teens and we know that one in four teens are possibly binge drinking.  We also know that binge drinking is damaging and here we learn that specifically it is damaging to the white matter of the brain.  Perhaps this is more than we needed to know.

All of this “knowledge” is easy to study – easy to understand.  However none of it makes any difference unless we DO something about the problem.

Alcoholics are being created on campuses which are supposed to be creating tomorrow’s leaders.  It is the gray matter, not the white matter that is supposed to be worked on in college.

Let the students study and the leaders in this country DO.  Please, let’s have fewer studies that tell us what we already know and more PLANs to fix the problems we know exist.

The solution starts with effective drug and alcohol prevention and treatment.

“A new MRI study finds that adolescents damage the white matter in their brain — which helps relay information between brain cells — when they binge on alcohol, HealthDay News reported April 21.

Researchers said that the study of 28 teens indicates that binge drinking could impair thinking and memory among teens, perhaps even affecting performance in school. Past studies have revealed white-matter damage in adult alcoholics.

“It could be that episodes of binge drinking during the teenage years, when their brain is still developing, could have adversely influenced the brain’s white matter development,” said lead researcher Susan F. Tapert of the University of California at San Diego and director of Substance Abuse/Mental Illness at the VA San Diego Healthcare System.

Given the current rate of adolescent binge drinking in the U.S., Tapert said that one in four teens could be at risk of white-matter damage due to heavy alcohol use.”

Narconon alcohol and drug treatment treats alcohol and drugs of abuse including adderall, pot, cocaine, methamphetamine, heroin and prescription medication.

WHO’S FOOLING WHO?

May 26, 2009

This article almost seems to give back door approval to the use of marijuana by teens for “medicinal” purposes.

Pot makes you high, dulls the senses and long term can decrease motivation.  It can be the gateway drug to other more highly potent and dangerous drugs like cocaine, heroin or methamphetamine.

How about teaching kids to live life the old fashioned way?  When you fall down, you get up and keep on going and learn along the way.  Life isn’t always easy but somehow through the centuries humankind has made its way, creating great advances in science and wonderful pieces of art.

Rome started falling apart around the same time as the population started to indulge in overdrinking. Self medication obviously didn’t help Rome.

Let’s get smart and promote a drug free life.  We need to get back to saying “no” to drugs and stop making excuses.

“Some teenagers are smoking marijuana for its medical benefits and not to get high, using the drug to self-medicate for conditions like depression, sleep problems, anxiety, stress, pain, and problems with concentration, HealthDay News reported April 23.

Researchers who interviewed 63 adolescents who were regular users of marijuana found that about one-third said they used the drug for medical purposes. “Youth who reported they had been prescribed drugs such as Ritalin, Prozac or sleeping pills stopped using them because they did not like how these drugs made them feel or found them ineffective,” according to the study authors. “For these kids, the purpose of smoking marijuana was not specifically about getting high or stoned.”

Some adolescents said marijuana provided immediate relief that prescription medications did not.

DON’T BELIEVE IT

May 25, 2009

Who is going to be thinking clearly enough to lead this country into the next era?  Couple stilted minds with the staggering debt that we are creating for the next generation and you have a future being created that is unlike anything we have witnessed in the past and scarier than any B rated science fiction movie.

Do not get lulled into celebrating the fact that prescription drug abuse is on the way out.  It isn’t and what’s frightening is the fact that this article points out that prescriptions for youths age 19 and under grew faster than any other age group. Many of these prescriptions are for mind altering drugs like Adderal and Ritalin, prescribed for attention deficit disorder.

If kids aren’t prescribed the stuff they want, they can pick it up at pharm parties.

It’s time to get into real action with our drug education and effective drug treatment programs before it is too late.

“Safety concerns, fewer new drugs hitting the market, and popular drugs becoming available over the counter contributed to the first decline in prescription drug use in the U.S. in a decade, the Associated Press reported May 13.

The economic recession had a lesser role in the decline in drug purchases, according to industry experts.

Pharmacy benefits-management firm Medco Health Solutions said that while spending on prescription drugs still rose 3.3 percent in 2008 despite declining sales, due to price increases averaging 8 percent for brand-name pharmaceuticals.

The research also showed that prescriptions for youths ages 19 and under grew faster than for any other age group, due in part to rising diabetes rates and sales of drugs for attention-deficit disorder and similar illnesses.”
